“The most important decision we make is whether we believe we live in a friendly or hostile universe.”
Albert Einstein
In many churches, we greet each other in peace. We say: “may the peace of the Lord be with you”. Saying this can become quite automatic. We do not really stop to think about what it truly means. We are wishing for people to have the peace of the Lord with them! This is huge! There is a reason why we do not say: “may the fear of the Lord be with you”. This is because fear is not OF the Lord, peace is.
I want you to imagine something. What if at church we said to each other: “may the fear of the Lord be with you.” It sounds ridiculous, but humor me for a moment. What if we silently said it over and over all day to everyone we met? “May the fear of the Lord be with you.” It seems outrageous and horrible that we would choose to do this.
The fact is, this is what happens. Please do not get me wrong. I know we do not purposely wish fear on people. But this is the hostile universe of which Albert Einstein is speaking above. When we are in a state of fear, we are CHOOSING to believe we live in a hostile universe. In turn, we share this fear with everyone around us! Now THAT’S a scary thought!
Fear is not of God. Therefore, fearful thoughts are not of God. As we learned in the previous post, fear does not last. It is not real. Therefore, fearful thoughts are not to be trusted. They are the opposite of the peace of the Lord.
The Lord does not have fearful thoughts, and neither should we. In order to hear God’s voice, we need to think more like him. When we live in a fearful state of mind, it is difficult to hear God’s voice.
Now I want you to imagine something else. What if we greeted everyone in our lives with the sign of peace? Try it. Silently say: “may the peace of the Lord be with you” to everyone in your life. This is the friendly universe in which we can choose to live. This is a world of peace. This is the world of the Lord.
Go out today and extend the peace of the Lord to everyone you meet. Feel it deep in your bones. “May the peace of the Lord be with you.” Share it with everyone you think about. Say it over and over again. Put it as a pop-up reminder on your computer! The peace of the Lord does not only belong in church. It belongs everywhere and with everyone.
If you are able to think about the peace of the Lord in any difficult situation you encounter, you have had a God Sighting. I am going to go out today and see what God Sightings I have by thinking of the peace of the Lord. I hope you do the same! Let’s do this and share our experiences below! I can’t wait!
May the peace of the Lord be with you, and let’s meet back here later!
Your friend and fellow peace seeker,
Elizabeth
