Being on stage with Paul McCartney broke through my glass ceiling.
I’ve heard the term “glass ceiling” used for that invisible limit we place on what we think is possible in our lives.
The minute we got to the concert that night, some man predicted I would be on stage with my dress by the end of the night. The fear set in. Me? I didn’t think anyone was looking. If I knew what I was really in for, I might have ran.
When you align with your greatness, it is exhilarating, and a little scary. A new freedom emerges and with it new responsibilities.
In yoga, we practice jumping from downward dog, swinging our legs between our arms to sitting down with your feet straight in front of you. If you do this at just the right point of inhale, you really fly.
You are exactly in tune, in line with your practice. Before you know it, you are airborne! It is exhilarating! And totally scary! To be honest, I did it once and now am working past my fear to be able to do it again.
The ego will set in. Remember the ego is the part of you that Edges God Out. The ego will tell you: none of it was real, it was a fluke mistake, you can’t really do this, and you’re full of yourself. Who do you think you are anyway?
Well, when you experience something great in your life, you can tell your EGO that you are a child of God. Greatness is your right just like everyone else. Put your shoulders back, open your heart, place your palms open, put your face toward the sky, and tell God to use you. There is nothing more humble than this.
To quote Marianne Williamson (as usual):
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
At the time I thought the gift was being on stage with Paul McCartney, but now I can see the real gift has been the friends I have made through this experience. I have met passionate people who love good music, people who’s hearts are open to greatness, people who share a common bond, and most of all such a network of love.
As I write this, I am flying to Las Vegas to attend the Cirque du Soleil’s Love Premier’s 10 year anniversary. Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon, and Olivia Harrison are all scheduled to attend this red carpet event. I am overwhelmed with gratitude about this trip. I am still in shock about what a turn my life has taken and the experiences my husband and I have had.
I am so thankful to my husband for making it possible to travel and see what we have seen. When you share a common passion, the stars align. Anything is possible. Glass ceilings break wide open. And miracles happen.
Namaste,
Elizabeth
I wrote this post on my way to Vegas (publishing it on my last day there), and oh what a trip it was. More miracles, more glass ceilings, more friends! I will include a pic here! More in my next post! LOVE TO ALL!
